Audience Feedback

I asked a range of different people to watch my film opening, so that I
could get feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of the work I have produced. After this, I asked the people to fill out a sheet based around the mark scheme, in order to get their opinion on how successful it was based around the points I had to meet.

I decided to ask five people - as this is the same amount of people who participated in my focus group, and the size of the group was successful and appropriate. However, this time I decided to be more specific when choosing people to ask for feedback. Three of the people picked were other media students, with a good understanding of what is expected. The other two people had not studied media, and I thought it would be good to see their opinions from a different perspective.

Feedback 1
Scores: 9, 9, 9, 9, 9
What was successful: "Catchy soundtrack, unique use of editing as a narrative and effective selection of shot types. Interesting your character didn’t show their face."
What could make it better: "I felt the match on action editing was a bit frantic at times, unaware as to if this was intentional but to me it just felt a little too all over the place. Maybe a tiny amount of dialogue could improve it in regards to contextual narrative."

Feedback 2
Scores: 9, 8, 8, 10, 10
What was successful: "The music was a great choice as it was fun and upbeat. It got my attention the most (in a good way). Match on action was perfect. Sophisticated looking font matches the A/B social grade of the protagonist."
What could make it better: "More creative shot at the pass over of the package. The guy turns the music 'on' as he exits the car, it is clever but seems unrealistic?"

Feedback 3
Scores: 10, 9, 9, 8, 9
What was successful: "There was a variety of camera shots and angles used, including rule of thirds, making the opening look cinematic. I liked the music and how the upbeat song juxtaposed with the drug deal happening in the opening scene. The credits also looked very professional and made it look more like a real film opening, and having them in the corner not too large text made them not take away from the action but they are still noticed. Your production company logo also looked realistic and professional."
What could make it better: "I noticed all of the all of the credits were at the bottom corner of the screen apart from one at the top which stood out a bit because of the change of placement."

Feedback 4
Scores: 8, 9, 8, 10, 9
What was successful: "The music went well. Really good camera shots - I like the variety. It also came across as mysterious, and the location worked well for this."
What could make it better: "It could maybe include dialogue? And have a bit more going on, maybe another actor?"

Feedback 5
Scores: 8, 8, 8, 10, 9
What was successful: "The way the main character stayed in the same position when the background changed."
What could make it better: "The only way to improve this film opening would be to make the credits more visible and easier to read."
